Baptism

It's great you're considering the possibility of BAPTISM!

We believe BAPTISM is a GREAT step to take as Jesus Christ becomes more relevant in your life. It intersects us with Jesus as He was baptized by John when beginning his ministry on earth.

Some ideas about BAPTISM include:

BAPTISM is a gift of grace, received by faith, expressed in a variety of images: new birth; a washing with water; a cleansing from sin; a sign of God’s forgiving grace; the power of new life now and the pledge of life in the age to come.

BAPTISM is grounded in God’s relationship to us in Jesus Christ as it incorporates a believer into the body of Christ, and it anticipates life in the coming age when the powers of the old world will be overcome, and the purposes of God will triumph.

BAPTISM is a public act by which the church proclaims God’s grace, as revealed in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. BAPTISM is a visible sign of God’s gracious initiative and an individual’s response in faith.

"Through BAPTISM into Christ, we enter into newness of life and are made one with the whole people of God. Just as BAPTISM represents the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, it also symbolizes the death and burial of the old self of the repentant believer, and the joyous birth of a brand new being in Christ. Those who founded the Christian Church movement taught BAPTISM by immersion as the accepted form.” — The Design Of The Christian Church

One day Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and John baptized him in the Jordan River. As Jesus came up out of the water, he saw the heavens splitting apart and the Holy Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice from heaven said, “You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.” — Mark 1:1-11

Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is to you, and to your children, and even to the Gentiles—all who have been called by the Lord our God.” — Acts 2:38-39

As they rode along, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “Look! There’s some water! Why can’t I be baptized?” He ordered the carriage to stop, and they went down into the water, and Philip baptized him. — Acts 8:36, 38

And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. — Galatians 3:27

BAPTISM is a public announcement of your connection with the Jesus Way. It has been defined as an "outward sign of an inward grace." Baptism here at WCC can be arranged at anytime (usually baptism takes place as part of a worship experience).  And several times a year, WCC offers the opportunity to be baptized without prior registration.  A change of clothing and towels, etc. are available for anyone who desires to follow Christ on those specific days.
